Ron’s Country Boy

Stephen Bybee
Columbia, MO
2003

I find myself coming back to Columbia’s Sixth Street again, this time the corner of Sixth and Broadway is our focus.  When I first moved to Columbia in 1995, this was the home of Ron’s Country Boy.  When I left Columbia in 2003 to move to Milwaukee, this corner was still home to Ron’s Country Boy.  When I returned in 2008 to make a permanent home here, Columbia had undergone some changes, and the name and ownership of this corner diner was one of those changes.  Ron’s Country Boy had become Lucy’s Corner Café, a breakfast and lunch eatery that thrived on this corner until 2017.  This photo was taken on black and white film on a snowy night in January or February of 2003, 22 years after Ron Dexter opened Ron’s Country Boy.  This space is now occupied by El Oso, a Mexican restaurant at home on this corner since 2019.
